Nigeria’s Senate President, David Mark had yesterday declared that the Senate will instill the creation of additional states after it was brought forth by the recently ended national conference.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh in the federal state capital, Abuja.
It read that the idea for the creation of more state’s matched the President’s idea was due to the mass populace desire to end the imbalances created by the current system.
He said this new creation will give Nigerians a more instilled sense of belonging.
It read: “Even if it takes my last breadth, I want to pursue the creation of state. I will put in my last breadth to ensure the creation of Apa State for my people” .

FG To Regulate Sale And Consumption Of 'Kpomo'

There are indications that the Federal Government may soon be banning the sale and widespread consumption of hides and skins (kpomo) which is a delicacy to most Nigerians.
This indication emerged on Tuesday, September 9, when Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for competent regulations that would check the consumption and sale of the product, Vanguard reports.

Lawmakers To Re-examine Schools' Resumption Date

If latest news are to be believed, then academic activities may not resume in both private and public schools in Nigeria in the month of September.
This is based upon reports that the House of Representatives has asked its Committee on Education to take another look at the resumption date announced for private and public schools in the country.
According to a report published by Thisday online, the decision of the lawmakers is necessitated by growing concerns among the public, especially parents and guardians of students, over the recent decision by the education authorities to reopen schools for the 2014/2015 academic session on Monday, September 22, 2014 despite the threat of the Ebola Virus Disease which has killed seven people in Nigeria.

Many feared killed as female suicide bomber attacks college in Kano

Not again. Another female suicide bomber blew herself up at Aminu Kano College of Islamic Studies this afternoon July 30th around 2.45 as students were checking their results in the school.

Kano State Police Command confirmed the blast but didn't state the number of casualties.

President Jonathan suspends Lamido Sanusi​,​ appoints Acting CBN Governor

President Jonathan has announced the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
The statement reads thus
Having taken special notice of reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicate clearly that Mallam Sanusi Lamido  Sanusi’s tenure has been characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s vision of a Central Bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline;

Zimbabwe Ban Nigerians from trading in their country

According to news reports, starting from January next year, Nigerians trading in Zimbabwe will no longer be allowed to. Zimbabwean authorities said they have given foreign shop-owners, mostly Chinese and Nigerian nationals, an ultimatum to shut down their businesses by January. 1, 2014.

The seven aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have announced their decision to merge with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the afternoon of November 26, 2013, Tuesday.
The meeting commenced at 9.30 a.m. at Kano Governor’s Lodge. It was the continuation of the meeting which ended last midnight, at about 12.30 a.m.
The governors declared their decision was aimed at rescuing the country.
Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, the former Acting National Chairman of the PDP, announced the decision after the meeting, at about 11.46 a.m., Tuesday.

ASUU Strike Update: FG to give varsities N1.1tn in 5yrs

Very late Monday night November 4th, President Jonathan met with officials of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over the on-going strike. After the meeting, ASUU officials said they would relay the outcome of the meeting later this week after consulting with other members of their board. The Union has not made an official statement yet but Punch is reporting that a key component of the agreement reached by the parties after the meeting was that the Federal Government would  inject N1.1trillion into public universities in the next five years.

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday night denied subjecting his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime, to house arrest and has vowed to protect her from being exposed to ridicule. Chime made this denial in the presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe.

Also present were the governor’s siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime, as well as Mrs. Chime’s neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo, among a few others. At the interview session, the governor’s wife denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission alleging unlawful detention by her husband.

After months of intensive deliberations, Nigeria has finally won the rights to host the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA). This decision was made by the International Committee of AFRIMA on October 5 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

According to AFRIMA’s Brand Communication and Sponsorship Director, Matlou Tsotetsi who addressed journalists at a press conference held on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos, Nigeria was selected to host the pan-African music award, beating four other countries - Gabon, South Africa, Namibia and Kenya - because of the booming business of music in the country and its growing entertainment and event – hosting infrastructure.

Boko Haram Have Turned 15,000 Eager Students Into Illitrates

The menace of Boko Haram on the educational sector of the country has been tragic with over 70 teachers and 100 students slaughtered and forcing about 15,000 potential students out of school.
This was made known by Amnesty International in a report released on Thursday titled “‘Keep Away From Schools or We’ll Kill You’: Education Under Attack in Nigeria”
In its report Amnesty Inteenational described the gruesome attacks on the educational front as an absolute disregard for the right to life and the right to education as well as crime against humanity.
Due to the sporadic attacks on teachers and pupils  almost all schools in Bama, Baga, Jajeri, Umarari Garnam, Mai Malari, Mungono and Gamboru were forced to close between February 2012 and June 2013, the report stated. It called on the government to live up to its responsibility of providing protection for schools in the region, investigating these attacks and bringing those responsible to justice.

Agagu's burial holds today despite plane crash

Despite the great tragedy that occurred yesterday, where the plane carrying Agagu's corpse crashed and killed 15 people, members of the late governor's family have insisted that they will go ahead with his burial. The Chairman of Ondo State PDP, Mr. Ebenezer Alabi, made  this  known yesterday.
“We have just consulted with the family and it has been decided that they would go ahead with the burial. This is more so that his  son, and son-in-law survived the crash. We are also aware that the casket bearing Agagu’s  body  was not affected by the crash. While we  sympathise with the families of  those who lost their  loved ones  in the crash, we  will go ahead with the burial.” He said

Following the plane crash involving family members of late Governor Olusegun Agagu and other dignitaries, enroute Akure, the Ondo state government has issued an official statement.
The crash of an Associated Airline plane happened on Thursday morning, at about 9:32am, at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos about one minute after take off.
The statement, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Ondo State Governor, Eni Akinsola, stated that the State received with shock the news of the crash of the plane bearing the corpse of the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Agagu, as it was taking off from Lagos.”
Although there are several reports as to the identity of the individuals involved, the statement disclosed that “a commissioner, family members, associates and other top government officials were also involved in the crash.”

There has been information that a light plane, probably on test drive, crash landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos this morning.


According to latest reports, a 20-seater Associated Airline jet flying to Akure, Ondo believed to be carrying passengers heading for the burial of former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Agagu.
Some persons are feared dead and several others injured, The Nation reports.
It is not yet known if there have been any casualties as the details are still sketchy.

Sources said the plane took off and immediately nose-dived into a building in the area.

According to a witness, the crash occurred at the local wing of the airport close to the section were JET-A1, plane fuel, is stored.
Fire service officials were seen evacuating the occupants of the plane.

"There's a lot of smoke coming from the runway, but we can't get access to it. There are fire-fighters rushing to the scene," Rasaki Rhakod, who runs a car service around the airport, told Reuters by telephone.
The spokesman of the Nigeria aviation agencies, Yakubu Datti, asked for more time to get details of the incident.
