David Mark: We Will Implement The Creation Of More States

Nigeria’s Senate President, David Mark had yesterday declared that the Senate will instill the creation of additional states after it was brought forth by the recently ended national conference.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh in the federal state capital, Abuja.
It read that the idea for the creation of more state’s matched the President’s idea was due to the mass populace desire to end the imbalances created by the current system.
He said this new creation will give Nigerians a more instilled sense of belonging.
It read: “Even if it takes my last breadth, I want to pursue the creation of state. I will put in my last breadth to ensure the creation of Apa State for my people” .

FG To Regulate Sale And Consumption Of 'Kpomo'

There are indications that the Federal Government may soon be banning the sale and widespread consumption of hides and skins (kpomo) which is a delicacy to most Nigerians.
This indication emerged on Tuesday, September 9, when Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for competent regulations that would check the consumption and sale of the product, Vanguard reports.

Lawmakers To Re-examine Schools' Resumption Date

If latest news are to be believed, then academic activities may not resume in both private and public schools in Nigeria in the month of September.
This is based upon reports that the House of Representatives has asked its Committee on Education to take another look at the resumption date announced for private and public schools in the country.
According to a report published by Thisday online, the decision of the lawmakers is necessitated by growing concerns among the public, especially parents and guardians of students, over the recent decision by the education authorities to reopen schools for the 2014/2015 academic session on Monday, September 22, 2014 despite the threat of the Ebola Virus Disease which has killed seven people in Nigeria.

UTME: FG Pegs 180 Points for Varsities, 150 for Polys

The federal government has pegged the cut-off points for the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to 180 for Universities and 150 for polytechnics and colleges of education.
This was decided at the 4th combined policy committee meeting on admission to tertiary institutions held in Abuja yesterday.
180 has been the cut-off point for degree awarding institutions for some time now but representatives of other institutions argued that the cut-off point for polytechnics and others be reduced to 150 in order to attract students and was accepted and adopted.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai urged youths and students to enroll themselves into the innovative enterprise institutions and engage in technical and vocational education and training to help improve the economy of the nation.
She reminded institutions to adhere strictly to the admission time-table that has been prepared by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde said by next year, the examination and its conduct would be improved upon.

The Chief Executive Officer of a Nigerian-based steel manufacturing company, Mr Sanjay Kumar, has said that Nigeria has the potential to become a global player in the manufacture and exportation of iron rods.
Kumar, CEO of African Foundries Limited, made the statement while taking newsmen on a tour of the company's steel mill at Ogijo in Ogun State on Tuesday.
"Nigeria has abundant iron ore deposit and if the full potential of government is ploughed into its exploration and exploitation, this country can begin to produce steel for export.
"The potential is there for Nigeria because of her drive toward economic diversification; her manpower base; her intellectual base in metallurgy science; and because she possesses abundant natural resources for steel production.
