In the last few weeks, no fewer than five children have, allegedly, been
defiled in Benin-City by men old enough to be their fathers. On
Thursday, Edo State Police Command paraded 32 suspected criminals,
amongst them, three accused of defiling children. The suspects include
a pastor with the Deeper Life Bible Church, Abudu, Edo State, Eze
Fidelis, who was said to have had carnal knowledge of two girls: Joy, 9,
and Anthonia,11.

Mrs. Asogbon Abosede, a
53-year-old primary school teacher, has been arraigned at the Ikeja
Magistrate’s Court for allegedly impersonating the wives of Lagos and
Osun states governors and defrauding officials of the Lagos State
Government.
Abosede, a Grade 10 teacher, was said to have committed the crime between June and July 2013 through text messages in which she claimed to be Mrs. Abimbola Fashola and Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola.

Nigerians have condemned the reported plans by the British Prime Minister, Mr David Cameron, to embark on a campaign to globalise gay marriage, saying that there is no room for such alien culture in Nigeria.
Cameron was quoted yesterday in some online media as having ambition to take the message of gay marriage around the world, saying he would deploy his ministers to different parts of the world to carry the campaign.
Cameron spoke of his pride at legalising same sex marriage, just a year after explicitly giving a personal guarantee to do it by 2015 at a reception for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans-sexual community at 10 Downing Street, London.

(Punch Metro) – Men of the Plateau State Police Command have rescued an eight-month old baby girl, who was allegedly sold by her grandmother in Jos, Plateau State.
Our correspondent learnt that the baby was sold in Jos few weeks ago, but was rescued in Onitsha, Anambra on Wednesday.She was rescued by men of the ‘A’ Division of the state police after a complaint by the mother and a tip-off by some members of the public.

A trailer yesterday crushed a taxi in Ibadan, killing the driver and two passengers.
The vehicle, which was carrying granite, was reportedly coming from the Ojoo end of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway when it skidded off the road due to a brake failure near the Iwo Road interchange axis of the expressway.
An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, told our reporter that the accident occurred about 1pm. He said the driver, on discovering the brake has failed, tried to use a structure beside the road to stop the vehicle, but he ran into the taxi, whose driver was dropping passenger.
According to the source, the trailer crushed the taxi, killing the driver and two passengers, dragging the cab until it hit a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) parked by the road. The SUV was slightly damaged as it was hit from behind. It tore the taxi into two.
The Nation learnt that on discovering the consequence of his action, the driver and his two assistants bolted to avoid being lynched by sympathisers.
Confirming the accident, Oyo State police spokesperson Mrs. Olabisi Ilobanafor said three people died.She said policemen visited the scene and towed the taxi and the SUV to a nearby station for further investigation.
According to her, the victims have been taken to the mortuary.Mrs. Ilobanafor said the trailer driver has been arrested.

Brave Cassidy Hooper, 17, is excitedly preparing for complicated surgery at the end of the month which will hopefully attach a nose to her face.
Born with no eyes and no nose, the teen from Charlotte, North Carolina, will undergo an operation on July 31st to have a bone removed from her rib cage and attached to her forehead - forming a bridge for her new nose.
Having already gone through preparatory surgery in June that has left her with a flap of skin where her nose will be, the high-school senior is even looking forward to starting her first job at the Library for the Blind in Raleigh and taking her own solo commute.

Women Affairs Minister Urges Senate To Delete Controversial ‘Child Marriage’ Clause

Hajiya Zainab Maina, Minister of Women Affairs, has called on the
Senate to revisit the controversial Section 29 (4)(b) of the 1999
Constitution and delete it in its entirety due to its discriminatory
nature.
The clause, which states “Any woman who is married shall be deemed to
be of full age,” promotes gender inequality and can make an underage
married girl to be charged under criminal law, she said.
Briefing journalists on constitution review matters in Abuja yesterday, Maina emphasised that it was necessary to clear the air on what the issues really were.
