The stage is set again, and Africans are full of expectations. With celebrities from all walks of life storming  Yenagoa, the capital city of Bayelsa State, this evening, for this year’s edition of  the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards, the question on the lips of everybody is who becomes the next queen of the screen in the continent?
For anything, the possibility of Rita writing her name in gold is being predicted. Rita who won last year’s Best Actress award  for her role in a Kenyan film ‘Shattered’ got nominated again for her role in her own movie, ‘The Meeting” to set herself for greatness.

Nigeria’s Guaranty Trust Bank Posts 19% Gain in Quarterly Profit

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GUARANTY), Nigeria’s largest lender by market value, said first-quarter profit climbed 19 percent after investment income increased.
Net income rose to 22.3 billion naira ($140.4 million), from 18.7 billion naira a year earlier, the Lagos-based lender said in a statement published on the website of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Investment and other operating income jumped 53 percent to 18 billion naira.

Permit for tinted glasses is free –IG

THE Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has said that obtaining police permit for the use of vehicles with tinted glasses “is free of charge”.
Abubakar made the clarification on Friday while speaking at a meeting with Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in charge of the 12 zonal commands in the country.
He said that the meeting was to review security challenges, including terrorism, kidnapping, cultism and communal clashes in parts of the country in order to strategise on how to address the challenges.
The IG said: “obtaining tinted glass permit is free of charge, there is no amount of money written there for anybody to pay.

World's oldest man in Japan celebrates 116th birthday today

Jiroemon Kimura, who used to be a postman, was born in western Japan in 1897
Japanese man Jiroemon Kimura, who holds the distinction of being the world's oldest living person, is celebrating his 116th birthday on Friday.
Mr Kimura, born on 19 April 1897, is believed to be the last known man to have lived across three centuries.
He worked as a postman until he was 65 years old before taking up farming until he was 90.
Guinness World Records has certified Mr Kimura as the world's oldest living person and the oldest living man.

Boston bomb suspect's capture sparks street celebrations

Residents took to the streets with American flags to celebrate the news that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev had been captured


Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was arrested following a shootout with police after being found hiding in a boat in a back yard in the Boston suburb of Watertown.
Dzhokhar's brother and fellow suspect Tamerlan, 26, was killed yesterday in a furious gun battle as the pair tried to escape police.
News of his capture sparked celebration across Boston as residents took to the streets with American flags.
