The troubled mobile phone maker BlackBerry still has at least one very loyal customer: U.S. President Barack Obama.

At a meeting with youth on Wednesday to promote his landmark healthcare law, Obama said he is not allowed to have Apple's smart phone, the iPhone, for "security reasons," though he still uses Apple's tablet computer, the iPad. He added that his daughters Sasha and Malia spend a lot of time on their iPhones.

Apple was one of several tech companies that may have allowed the National Security Agency (NSA) direct access to servers containing customer data, according to revelations by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The companies deny the allegation.

Obama fought to keep his BlackBerry after coming to the White House in 2009, though he said only 10 people have his personal email address. Neither George W. Bush nor Bill Clinton used email during their presidencies.

BlackBerry, a Canadian company formerly known as Research In Motion Ltd, renowned for its strong security encryption, virtually invented the idea of on-the-go email, but lost its market stranglehold as rivals brought out more consumer-friendly devices, like Apple's iPhone and phones using Google's Android software.

The company recently halted plans to be sold and is trying to chart a new course by focusing on large business and government clients.

Although it was denied by the Federal Government, gold-plated iPhones bearing the country coat  of arms have arrived the country in time for it’s 53rd anniversary.
The iPhones valued at N662m from Gold and Co, a British luxury products company to mark her 53rd independence anniversary. It is however not clear who and who will be getting the phones.

BlackBerry has delayed the rollout of BBM for Android & iPhone

BlackBerry has confirmed that it has aborted the rollout of BBM for Android and iPhone. BBM was scheduled to land on 21 and 22 of September for Android and iPhone respectively, but has now been delayed and the reason is said to be the leaked version of the application, which appeared online last week.
The leaked version of BBM was apparently downloaded 1.1 million times, according to reports. BBM did appear in the App Store in some regions, but the release has now been delayed.
Users who did manage to download BBM via the App Store will still be able to use it, although BlackBerry has now disabled the leaked Android version.

Samsung today confirmed that when BBM™, the mobile social network, launches for Android smartphones on the 21st September 2013, it will be available as a free download for Samsung Galaxy smartphones across Africa from the Google Play store.

BlackBerry to launch BBM app for Android, iOS devices on Sept 21

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), the most popular service from BlackBerry, will be available for download on Android and iOS devices from the coming weekend.

In a statement late on Wednesday, BlackBerry said the BBM app will be available for free download for Android smartphones running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean operating systems beginning at 7 a.m. EDT (4.30 p.m. India time) on September 21.

BBM for iPhones running iOS 6 and iOS 7 operating systems will be available for each market on the App Store starting 12.01 AM local time on September 22.

Apple acquires indoor GPS mapping firm WifiSlam

 Apple has recently acquired the indoor GPS mapping firm WifiSlam for around $20 million. It’s a two year old Silicon Valley startup that helps detecting a mobile phone user’s location via Wi-Fi signals.
