sambo_jonathanThere appears to be a crack in the home front of Vice President Namadi Sambo as the Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday split into two with a faction pledging its loyalty to the Abubakar Kawu Baraje led group.
As if reading from the same script, some kinsmen of President Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa State also declared support for the “new PDP” yesterday, describing its emergence as the break of a new dawn.

TO some observers, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plans to choose President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole aspirant for its presidential ticket for the 2015 election. Supporters of the president, especially his kinsmen from the South- South, have also been unrelenting in trying to convince other stakeholders on the need for the president to continue in office. The likes of Chief Edwin Clark, Tompolo, Asari  Dokubo and others from the  president’s zone had, in several interviews, appeared to have threatened thunder and brimstone if the President was not allowed to succeed himself in office, come 2015.These remarks were often met with stiff reactions from  many Northerners who still nursed the grudge that the North  was politically shortchanged in 2011.

THE Federal Government has apparently resolved to scrap some of its agencies in line with the recommendations of the Stephen Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies following its completion of study of its White Paper Committee.

The committee had recommended the abolition of 38 agencies, the merger of 52 and the reversion of 14 to departments  in the ministries from  which they were carved out, a move the committee argued would save more than N862 billion between 2012 and 2015 if the government carried out what the panel has proposed.
