Breaking News: Oscar Pistorius not guilty of murder

 A South African judge Thursday said Oscar Pistorius acted negligently when he shot and killed his girlfriend on Valentine's Day last year, but stopped short of issuing a formal verdict or sentence.

"I am of the view that the accused acted too hastily and used excessive force," Judge Thokozile Masipa said of Mr. Pistorius decision to fire four shots through his locked bathroom door. He says he thought an intruder was inside. "It is clear that his conduct was negligent."

She then adjourned the reading of her decision until Friday. A charge of "culpable homicide," or manslaughter, carries a wide range of possible sentences in South Africa, from a fine to 15 years in prison. Mr. Pistorius also faces three weapons charges that the judge didn't address in detail on Thursday.

Ms. Masipa's decision caps a seven-month trial that has enthralled South Africans, drawing together the country's most famous athlete and a beautiful model in a high-stakes reckoning with twin national scourges of crime and domestic violence.

The life of a 17-year-old student of Bowen University and a friend of mine, Opeyemi Odusanya, has been cut short by some cult members in Lagos.

It was gathered that the undergraduate was murdered for allegedly rejecting sexual advances from some youths in the area and also for “being too proud.”

It was learnt that the victim was a 300 level student of Biochemistry at the university.

Police authorities told our correspondent that Opeyemi was stabbed to death by the cultists at her parents’ house in the Alakuko area of Lagos on February 3, 2014.

A car with the remains of three men was dug out (pictured above) of a riverside bush in Obi LGA of Nasarawa State last weekend. The men have been identified as the Managing Director of Police Microfinance Bank, Alhaji Hassan Gidado, the manager of the bank’s Abuja branch, Mr. Tunde Banwo, and a company driver. 

The men were killed by people suspected to be members of the Ombatse group, who allegedly ambushed them, took them to the bush, killed them in their car, set the car ablaze and buried them with their car in the bush.  The incident happened at Tudun Adabu in Obi Local Government.

Gunmen attack & kill over 10 in uncompleted building in Apo, Abuja

Unknown gunmen dressed in military fatigue stormed an uncompleted building behind Legislator’s Quarters in Apo, Abuja in the early hours of this morning Friday September 20th killing over 10 people.

The people killed were inhabitants of the uncompleted building, mostly abokis who polish shoes and sell water.

According to eyewitnesses, the owner of the uncompleted building had warned people who pass the night in the building to desist from it, but they refused. Then the massacre this morning happened.

A survivor said they pay someone N200 every night to sleep in the uncompleted building and had been harassed and warned severally by military men to stop coming there...but they couldn't because they had nowhere else to go.

A resident in the area said that at about 12:30am he heard gunshot severally throughout the night, causing panic in the area. The number of people who died may be more than 10.

A young Indian woman was beaten to death by members of her own family and her boyfriend beheaded in an horrific honour killing after they were lured back to their village thinking were going to be allowed to marry.

Nidhi Barak, 20, a fine arts student, and Dharmender Barak, 23, who was studying at technical college, were killed last night as locals in Gharnavati village in the Indian state of Haryana watched on.
The pair had eloped to nearby Delhi on Tuesday because their families did not approve of their relationship.

Trayvon Martin's Parents 'Devastated' by Not-Guilty Verdict

The parents of Trayvon Martin felt "shock" and "disgust" when a Florida jury ruled Saturday night that George Zimmerman, 29, was found not guilty in the shooting death of their son.
"I really didn't believe that he was not guilty," Sybrina Fulton said today on "Good Morning America." "My first thought was shock, disgust."
Zimmerman had been accused of second-degree murder for shooting Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, Feb. 26, 2012, in Sanford, Fla. He said from the beginning that he had shot Martin in self-defense, but many questioned his account of the incident.
"I think people are forgetting that Trayvon was a teenager so he probably thought as a teenager," Fulton said. "I really do believe he was afraid because he did call George Zimmerman creepy. So he was afraid and if you are 17 years old and you are afraid, you may not know what to do."
The verdict from the all-female jury of six was met with a wave of public outcry, including protest marches across the country.

OAU student gives birth & attempts to flush new born baby down the toilet in school hostel

According to reports I got this morning from students of Obafemi Awolowo University, a female student of the school gave birth in the Moremi Hostel hall toilet and attempted to flush the baby but was caught my the hall cleaners.

They say the girl's name is Oyin (let's leave her surname out for now) and she's a 400l student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The incident happened very early this morning.
