Nigeria striker, Umar Aminu has been crowned the Goal King of the
2013 African Youth Championship (AYC), which was concluded on Saturday
in Oran, Algeria.
The Wikki Tourists striker scored four goals in as many matches to finish as top scorer in the biennial championship.
He fired a brace against DR Congo and then another double in a third place match against Mali on Friday.
Aminu’s closest rivals for the Goal King award were Egypt’s Hamid
Mahmoud and Ebenezer Assifuah, who both finished on three goals apiece
after they failed to add to their tally in Saturday’s final.
Flying Eagles skipper Abduljaleel Ajagun scored twice from the penalty spot.
He takes over from compatriot Uche Nwafor, who also fired four goals
as Nigeria won a sixth AYC title two years ago in South Africa.
Meanwhile, Ivorian club, Asec Mimosas will demand a FIFA ban on
Flying Eagles striker ,Olanrewaju Kayode if he fails to rejoin them.
Asec claim the 20-year-old striker still has a year left on his contract with them, but he has refused to team up with them.
A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) informed
MTNFootball.com that Asec have formally complained to them about the
“missing’ Kayode, who has interested several European clubs after his
performance at the 2013 African Youth Championship in Algeria.
“Asec have informed us that Kayode still has a valid contract with
them till next year. They have also told us that they expected the
player back after his loan spell in Switzerland with FC Lucerne, but
instead what they have heard is that the player has been undergoing
trials in Europe,” the top official informed MTNFootball.com
“They have said they will ask for an outright ban on the player by FIFA if he fails to rejoin them.”
Officials are expected to meet with the player to get his own side of this stalemate.
However, a representative of Kayode who was in Algeria for the AYC
said that there was no cause for alarm and the issues around the player
will soon be resolved.
“Kayode had several offers after the AYC but we will resolve the Asec
case before we take up any of the openings presented to the player
after the tournament,” he said.
The former schoolboy international, who recently underwent trials
with Dynamo Minsk of Belarus in Turkey, has since left Algeria.
He is believed to have interested a rash of clubs in France as well
as Egyptian giants Al Ahly with his all-action style in the Flying
Eagles attack even though he did not score a goal at the 2013 AYC.
Four years ago, Kayode also sparked off a claim from Red Bull Academy of Ghana.
