Looks like Nokia’s gamble with Windows Phone is finally beginning to pay off. After consecutive quarters of disappointing results, the former world leader in mobile phones managed to jump up out of red during Q4 2012. Nokia managed to sell 4.4 million Lumia smartphones during this period, a much needed perk for the company, especially after a difficult Q3 when 2.9 million Lumia smartphones were shipped.
The total for Lumia stands at 14.3 million units until December 31, 2012. These figures completely match Nokia’s expectations for Q4. What comes as more good news for the company is that its overall sales volume in the North American market also saw an increase of 40 percent year-to-year, to 700,000 during Q4 2012. Q2 and Q3 saw Nokia selling 600,000 and 300,000 respectively.
While the U.S. sales are yet to register a dramatic increase, looks like Nokia’s slow and steady approach is definitely pushing the company in a positive direction. The future also looks promising for Nokia, which is all set to unveil more Windows Phone based devices at the upcoming World Mobile Congress to be held in February 2013.
