Mikel scored his first English Premier League goal for Chelsea on Saturday at Stamford Bridge
in their 2-0 defeat of Fulham. Mikel had stated after Chelsea’s 2-1 home defeat to FC Basel last Wednesday that the players did not carry out Jose Mourinho’s instructions.
And even though, the performance of the midfielder and his Chelsea teammates was far from being superlative, he added the second goal in the 84th minute to stop a run of four
matches without a win. And Mikel took his goal spectacularly with a half volley. Mikel had 92% pass accuracy from 99 touches and got a rating of 8.0 for his contributions.
The Nigerian had only ever scored for Chelsea in the FA Cup – one against Macclesfield Town on January 6, 2007 and the second was against Nottingham Forest, also in the FA Cup. Another feat that was accomplished on the evening was that his goal brought a smile to the face of Chelsea benefactor Roman Abramovich who had looked really morose when the match was being played.
