Microsoft's Imagine Cup kicks off in Lagos

Microsoft’s Imagine Cup Finals for students in Nigeria organized in partnership with Nokia, Dell, and MainOne kicks off Tuesday in Lagos.

Imagine Cup brings students from all over the world and take their one of a kind grand breaking app idea from concept to marketplace with Microsoft resources.

The winner of the national Imagine Cup Finals will represent Nigeria in the world stage event to be held Saint Petersburg, Russia in July 2013.

Yinka Oni, the National Technology Officer, Microsoft Nigeria said, “Imagine cup is a premier technology competition where we bring students together to basically imagine and dream and in vision and bring to light their ideas. Imagine cup is an opportunity for talented youth to actually impact new ideas that can actually transform the world.

“We believe that all the teams represented here today believe they can change the world. Today we are really excited we are going to see a lot of innovative heart breaking ideas that can possible win the Global Imagine Cup Final at Saint Petersburg, Russia .”

Olumide Balogun, the Partner Manager Developer Expert Nokia, said, an event like Imagine cup gave opportunity to showcase idea and to showcase solution, “it gives student an opportunity to compete at the international level.

 “At Nokia what I think; what I wake up thinking about and go to bed thinking about, how can we build company; how can we have solution that transform the way people live their life; how can  we have solution that transform the way people perceive technology; how can we impact in the knowledge and resources that we have at our disposal, we need to consider all these, that’s why Nokia is very happy to partner with Microsoft, Dell and MainOne to have this kind of competition to bring those opportunities to Nigerian universities.”

He said, the First Price Winner, each and every member of that team will get a Nokia Lumia 920 device, Second price a Nokia Lumia 920 and the third place winner will a Nokia Lumia 620 device.

Shina Oyetoso, Country Manager, Microsoft Nigeria, said, that the First and Second Place Winners will get an additional Voxtrol laptop from dell, while the third place will get Nokia Lumina 690.

Oyetoso said, “These will be presented for them to represent Nigeria well at the world stage, therefore we need to equip them to be able to deliver great value that is why we are putting all this investment on them to deliver in world stage and possibly create employment like their forbears.

“The last five set have all been running there own business. Everybody that has passed through Imagine Cup have started their own company.”
