With
all the hype surrounding the eye tracking technology in the upcoming
Samsung Galaxy S4, it was only a matter of time before other smartphones
thought about getting in on the act. However, while most people will
look at how such technology can make life easier for you and I, just
think of the benefits for those who have limited abilities?
Eye tracking tech was first used to help disabled people look at web pages without the need to use their hands, which was thanks to some clever software and a lot of help from researchers. It’s almost certain that one of the iPhone 6 features will include eye control, but then again we have to remember that Apple already owns several patents, all of which are software based.
We have already seen eye-tracking apps on the App Store in their basic form, but shows that it’s possible just by use of software. However, we believe that there is far more to this technology than just fun, because the benefits will help the disabled.
Some people will suggest that this is a gimmick for a smartphone, although this was also said about Siri, which as we know is far from the truth. This personal assistant was able to take accessibility to a new level. Siri is a fantastic tool for those of you with disabilities, so if you struggle to use many of the functions of an iPhone, such as searching the Internet for the weather, running a Google search or even creating reminders, all of this can be controlled by your voice This means that the element of having to type in your commands has been taken away.
Eye control features will just be an extension of this technology because the two should be able to work in unison with each other, and while the video below shows the fun side of the implementation of eye control for a tablet, eye tracking built into the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 6 would the change lives once again.
